To the students considering the Returnee / English entrance examination
At Yamawaki Gakuen, we provide a high level linguistic and multicultural class for our first year students who were admitted through our English entrance examination. During the second year of their studies, the students are divided into smaller classes based on the their English academic ability. These courses mainly focus on international and global education in order to promote international understanding and nurture our students’ global mentality.

イングリッシュアイランド(EI)
Our primary English education is based on the following points:
English lessons that are divided into 5 different levels of proficiency.
A 6 year Global Education curriculum.
An “English Challenge Program” (ECP) class for our higher level students.
An “Integrated Language Arts Program” (ILA).
A designated area for English use called English Island.

GI – GV (Goal)
While exploring the horizons of language learning, our students will acquire the international skills necessary (communication skills, tolerance, negotiation skills and leadership skills) to sustain their ambition in making a solid contribution to this world.GIの授業内容
GIは英語初学者～英検４級程度習得者で編成されるグレードです。生徒は、週５コマの日 本人による授業で、検定教科書NEW CROWNを使い、中学で学ぶべき英語（４技能５領 域）を一から丁寧に学びます。また、生徒はORC（Oxford Reading Club）を用いて洋書の 多読を進めたり、オンライン英会話にも挑戦します。
週１コマのEIS（English Island Stay）では、生徒は５コマを１つ流れとしたPBL（プロ ジェクト学習）に取り組みます。英検４級、中２では英検３級、中３では英検準２級の習得 を目指します。
G1 English Lessons
The G1 classes are composed of students that range from beginners to students who are Eiken Level 4 certified. This course is taught 5 times a week by a Japanese teacher with the use of the grammar textbook NEW CROWN 1 covering all four linguistic skills including general communication skills. In addition, the students have access to a wide variety of literary content through our affiliated Oxford Reading Club. One to one online English lessons are also provided to our students to reinforce language use.
Furthermore, the students also participate in a special English lesson taught each week called English Island Stay (EIS). This lesson mainly focuses on Project Based Learning education and also provides support for established formal examinations such as the EIKEN StepTest level 4.
GII授業内容
GIIは英検３級程度習得者で編成されるグレードです。生徒は週５コマの授業で、検定教科 書NEW CROWNを使い、中学で学ぶべき英語（４技能５領域）を一から丁寧にかつ、GIよ りもペースをあげて学んでいきます。生徒は、応用問題にも挑戦していきます。また、生徒 はORC（Oxford Reading Club）を用いて洋書の多読を進めたり、オンライン英会話にも挑 戦したりします。
週１コマのEIS（English Island Stay）では、生徒は５コマを１つ流れとしたPBL（プロ ジェクト学習）を進めていきます。
英検については、すでに３級程度を取得している学習集団であることを配慮し、中１では 準２級（GIII相当）、中２では英検２級（GIV相当）、中３では準１級（GV相当）の習得を 目指します。
G2 English Lessons
The G2 class is composed of students that have Eiken Level 3 certification. This course is taught 5 times a week by a Japanese teacher using the grammar textbook NEW CROWN 2 which also covers all four linguistic skills with the inclusion of general communication skills. In addition, the students have access to a wide variety of books through our affiliated Oxford Reading Club. One to one online English lessons are also provided to our students to reinforce the use of English.
Moreover, the students have one special English lesson taught each week called English Island Stay (EIS). This lesson mainly focuses on Project Based Learning with support for established formal examinations such as the EIKEN Step Test level 3. GIIIの授業内容
GIIIは英検準２級程度習得者で編成されるグレードです。生徒は週３～４コマの授業で、 検定教科書を使って、中学で学ぶべき英語（４技能５領域）を学ぶことに加え、海外の現地 校教材にも取り組みます。生徒は英語によるプレゼンやディスカッションの基本も学んでい きます。また、生徒はORC（Oxford Reading Club）を用いて洋書の多読（難易度の高いも のを指定）を行ったり、オンライン英会話で、すでに培ってきた会話力に磨きをかけたりし ていきます。
生徒は週２～３コマの授業で、海外のテキストを使って、英語によるリサーチ、エッセ イ、プレゼン、ディスカッションを通じて、すでに有している英語力の維持・向上を目指し ます。
英検については、中１では２級（GIV）、中２では英検準１級（GV相当）、中３では英検 １級を目指します。また、通年開講しているTOEFL Junior講座やTOEFL iBT講座を受講する 生徒もたくさんいます。
G3 English Lessons
The G3 class is composed of students that have Eiken Level Pre-2 certification. This course is taught 3 to 4 times a week by a Japanese teacher covering all four linguistic skills including general communication skills with the use of a textbook used abroad in English speaking countries. In addition, the students have access to a wide variety of higher level literature through our affiliated Oxford Reading Club. One to one online English lessons are also provided to our students to reinforce their use of English.
In order to balance the students linguistic education they also have 2 to 3 special English lessons taught each week mainly focused on Project Based Learning education (research, essay writing, presentations and discussion). This course also provides support for established formal examinations such as the EIKEN Step Test, TOEFL JUNIOR and TOEFL iBT.
GIVの授業内容
GIVは英検２級程度習得者で編成されるグレードです。帰国生の多くが所属しています。 中1ではネイティブ講師が週５コマの授業を担当します。生徒は英語によるリサーチ、エッセ イ、プレゼン、ディスカッションを通じて、すでに有している高い英語力をさらに伸ばして いきます。
一方で、日本人教師は週１コマの授業を担当します。生徒は検定教科書で学ぶべき最低限 の語彙や文法を学んだり、高校レベルの教材を用いて、生徒は思考力・判断力・決断力を養 います。
英検については、中学在学中に英検準１級～１級の取得を目指します。夏期・冬期・春期 講座では英検準１～１級講座の受講を生徒に奨励しています。また、通年開講している TOEFL Junior講座やTOEFL iBT講座を受講する生徒もたくさんいます。
G4 English Lessons
The G4 class is mostly composed of returnee students that have Eiken Level 2 certification. This course is taught 5 times a week by a native English teacher and focuses on Project Based Learning education (research, essay writing, presentations and discussion) to further improve on the already high linguistic skills of the students.
Students also take part in an English lesson provided by a Japanese teacher once a week. The focus is on lexis, grammar, thinking skills, decision making skills and resolution skills taught through the use of a textbook recommended by the Japanese board of education.
One goal of this course is to pass the Eiken Step Test Level Pre-1 or 1. We encourage the students to take supplementary courses provided during periods when regular lessons are on a break. Moreover, many of our students also apply for examinations such as TOEFL JUNIOR and TOEFL iBT.

The G5 class is mostly formed of returnee students that have Eiken Level 1 certification. This course is taught 6 times a week by a native English teacher and focuses on Project Based Learning education (research, essay writing, presentations and discussion) to further improve on the already high linguistic skills of the students.

イングリッシュアイランド(EI)
イングリッシュアイランド（以下EI）は、イギリスの街並みを再現した校内区画のことをさ し、２つのエリアがあります。サウスエリアでは現地校を模倣した教室が２つと展示オープ ンスペース。ノースエリアではシアタールーム、ライブラリー、ダウンタウン、スタッフルー ム（ネイティブ常駐）があります。生徒は、昼や放課後の休み時間に、このエリアを利用し て、ネイティブと日常会話やボードゲームを行ったり、英検の二次対策やエッセイライティ ングの指導を受けたりすることができます。
English Island (EI)
English Island is an area within our campus that faithfully reproduces the beautiful streets of England and is divided into two main sectors. The southern area of EI has two classrooms that replicate the atmosphere of an international classroom next to an open space where the students’ work is shown. The northern area is where the theater room, English Library, “Downtown” open space and international staffroom are located. Students take advantage of these facilities during their lunch break or after school to have English conversations with our native staff or practice for upcoming written tests or interviews.
イングリッシュ・アイランド・ステイ（EIS）
中学（GI・GII）では週１回のEISという授業があり、生徒は、一定期間、EIエリアで英語 を学びます。ダウンタウンエリアには６つの小部屋（フラワーショップ、ブックショップ、 レストラン、ファーマシー、バンク、スクールオフィス）があり、生徒は中央エリアで課題 指示を受けた後、各小部屋にいきグループ学習を行うことができます。また、各部屋のテー マに合わせてロールプレイ学習（ファーマシーで自身の体調を英語で伝え正しい薬を処方し てもらう練習等）を行うこともあります。
English Island Stay (EIS)
EIS lessons are English lessons taught once a week for junior high school G1 and G2 grades in the EI area. Within the “Downtown” area are 6 smaller rooms, designed with the theme of small shops, designated for group work sessions during these special lessons. Some examples of these sessions are role play activities, poster creation or discussions.イングリッシュ・アイランド・クラブ（EI部）
本校にはEI部という部活があり、年間で行われる学校説明会やオープンキャンパスで、EI エリアでのイベントを企画・実施したり、文化祭でグループプレゼンを実施したり、クラブ 独自のパーティー（ハロウィンやクリスマス）を開いたりします。EI部担当のネイティブ教 員と生徒の有志が集まり「スペイン語クラブ」や「フランス語クラブ」も活動しています。 一部の生徒は外部コンテスト（スピーチコンテスト、エッセイコンテスト、英語弁論大会、 模擬国連等）にも参加しています。
English Island (EI) Club
Yamawaki Junior Senior High School is proud of its many cultural clubs. One of them is EI Club, where its members are eagerly participating in our main school events to promote English use as a communication tool. The members also host seasonal parties where any student can participate and enjoy the international atmosphere in the English Island area with our diverse native staff members. Moreover, EI Club also offers lessons for other languages such as French and Spanish. Our EI Club members frequently participate in essay and speech contests.
イングリッシュ・アイランド・スタッフ（EIスタッフ）
本校には６名のEIスタッフがいて、アメリカ、イギリス、フィリピン、フランス出身など、 様々なバックグラウンドを持ったスタッフがEIスタッフルームと一般職員室に常駐していま す。中学のEISの授業をはじめ、GIII～GV（週３～６回）のハイレベル授業、高校のエッセ イライティングの授業を担当しています。また、TOEFL Junior / iBTの放課後講習や、中3の 英語チャレンジプログラムの特別授業（放課後７限授業）やEI部の指導にも携わっていま す。英会話から英検二次試験、海外大学進学（エッセイ・プレゼン指導）まで、幅広いサポー トを行っています。
English Island (EI) Staff
Yamawaki Junior Senior High School has a diverse team of teachers with a rich academic background from all over the world. Our educators are responsible from junior high school courses that range from G3 to G5 (3 to 6 times per week) all the way to high school writing lessons. Furthermore, our teachers are also responsible for after school supplementary lessons for TOEFL Junior / iBT, junior high school grade 3 English Program lessons, English Island Club activities and international university exam essay and interview preparation sessions. Their support is a main pillar of our educational establishment.
